A Block of Fresh Air

How much cooler can East Colfax Avenue get? We can’t guess; all we know is that this neighborhood just keeps getting sweeter. See for yourself at the Super Fresh Block Party organized by Fabric Lab/Shoppe mastermind Tran Wills. “I’m totally community-oriented,” explains Wills, “and we wanted the whole neighborhood involved.”

This is the second East Colfax bash organized by Wills, who plans on making the parties a seasonal event. Tonight’s summer session will include live painting, barbecue, art exhibits, live music, a bikini car wash in the Rockbar parking lot to benefit Iowa flood victims, and a monster of a fashion show. “I wanted to use the entire block as a runway,” explains Wills. “The Denver Roller Dolls are going to be models for the show.” That means sixty of the Dolls will don local fashion — their wild hairstyles provided by Babooshka, Bad Kittie and Big Hairy Monster salons — and strut up and down the blocks, bearing (free!) mini-cupcakes from the Shoppe for all to enjoy.

In a nutshell, it’s “art and fashion and music all night, from 6 to midnight,” and the only thing missing is you. What a great way to celebrate the Fourth of July, one day late! The block party takes place around the 3100 block of East Colfax Avenue (the fashion show finale stops in front of the Fabric Lab, 3105 East Colfax); for information, call 303-321-3604 or visit www.thefabriclab.com.
